Air Display 2 App Reviews

Very Useful

Really makes any software with multiple floating menus much easier especially with a smaller laptop screen. Within seconds it became was obvious Id be using it daily. It works just as advertised and the only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 5 is the lack of ability to zoom. This would make smaller text more functional. Hope this is addressed in future releases. That aside this one is a winner.

Great But Unsightly

This is a great app and could be useful for many purposes. Unfortunately, with no zoom in function, most prove impossible.

Just works

Connect and youre up and running. A second display for my Mac. Fabulous!

Disappointed

Two main problems: 1. If you use the retina resolution for the iPad the letters are extremely small and you basically need a magnifier or vulture eyes 2. If you turn that checkbox off (i.e. no retina display), you get a more acceptable resolution however, the letters are fuzzy and there is something going on on the display. I bought the app to read web help displayed in FF for a program I am using. As I hover the mouse in the page there is flashing on the screen. It is a bit hard to describe but it is annoying (the effect looks a bit like the old CRT terminals). I tried the HiDPI resolution but it doesnt have any noticeable effect as far as I could observe.

For development

Perfect for designing for a device interface. See updates real time on the phone is super useful and speeds up the whole process.

Unusable with iPad Air

Uses the iPad Airs retina display at full resolution, meaning that the pixels are way too small and its impossible to read or tap anything on the second screen. It may work okay with earlier iPads, but on the Air its unusable.

very lag response on iPad screen

Good idea, but very lag response, almost useless. Hope there will be updates in the near future.

Works well

Works well. It does lag a bit. But once that is fixed this will be perfect. Been using it now for a few months and I am happy with it, generally.

Doesnt work, wont give refund!

It works, finally! I bought this a while ago and it wouldnt work, now it works well. Cool app!

Dashed hopes

Drivers will not install properly after multiple time-wasting attempts on win 8.1 two day old pc. This app is not ready for prime time so dont waste yours!

Needs refinement

I tried this on my ipad 2nd generation (IOS8.1) w/ my 13" mpb (Mavericks) and 13" macbook air (Yosemite). Although the devices pair, it is extremely laggy, there are rendering artifacts, and the multitouch gestures do not work well. For example, scrolling is not only glitchy, it only works in the downwards motion; the three finger clicking seems to need two or three presses before registering. I really want for this app to succeed. However, in its current state, it is unusable for my needs and devices. Mileage may vary according to your requirements. I plan to buy an ipad air 2 soon and want to retest the product in a few months after Avatron updates and optimizes the software.

Road Warriors Delight

Dual Monitors on the road…how great is that? When travelling I use Air Display with my MacBook Air and iPad to get a dual-monitor session into our corporate Windows Server. It works flawlessly with most Hotel/Cafe Wi-Fi hotspots or my iPhone’s personal hotspot. Air Display is terrific piece of software and is well worth the money. Tips for using Air Display on public Wi-Fi hotspots: 1. Connect both your computer and iPad to the same public Wi-Fi spot. 2. Bring up a web browser on each, complete login/acceptance screen, and verify Internet connectivity by browsing to a web page. 3. Start Air Display on computer and iPad and wait for them to connect. 4. If they don’t connect, try connecting using the IP address of the iPad. 5. If that doesn’t work, then the public Wi-Fi hotspot isn’t compatible with Air Display. Either move to another hotspot or create a personal hotspot on your phone (or Wi-Fi+Cellular iPad). Tips for using Air Display to get a dual-monitor session to Windows Server: 1. Download & Install MS Remote Desktop on your computer. 2. Set MS Remote Desktop to “Use all monitors” and “Start session in full screen”. 3. Start Air Display on computer and iPad and wait for them to connect. 4. Initiate a Remote Desktop session with the desired Windows Server and voila, instant dual-monitor session.

Well worth the small cost, well implemented

It is a shame that users are leaving low reviews when many of these problems could be solved by just contacting their excellent support team. Adding a second or third monitor (using your iOS device) for a few bucks with this app is invaluable. I also like that if you turn off your iPad or it happens to lose connection, the desktop client creates a little virtual monitor inside another window window, so your application window locations dont get lost. Great work!

Laggy

I really can see my self using this on the daily but its slow laggy.

this app is now obselete .. get Duet instead

Dont waste your money now that Duet is available and its initial bugs have been worked out. Duet makes all WiFi based external monitor apps obsolete. Duet uses the standard lightning cable as the external display connection between your Mac and iPad. I used or rather have had Air Display and then Air Display 2 and other WiFi based external display apps for years. Air Display 2 is the best WiFi based iPad external monitor app, but even it was such a hassle with such poor performance and limited usability that I pretty much stopped using it. I have the latest AirPort Extreme AC router, an iPad Air 2 and MacBook retina all with AC wireless but even with the latest fastest WiFi, the limitations of a WiFi connection were always obvious. Forget using WiFi based external display apps on the go... They dont work at all with most public WiFi for security reasons, and even amateur public WiFi where Air Display could work, the connection and WiFi display performance were so port as to be an exercise in self torture. I always wished a wired solution would exist, and now it does. Some former Apple engineers figured out how to use the standard lightning cable as the external display connection. Their app Duet is the first iPad as external display app that "just works" anywhere, and performs almost as well as a dedicated external monitor. Until other developers come up with equal or better apps that also use a lightning cable, Duet is the only external monitor app worth using.

I guess this app works fine only in Mac Book and ipad environment reading all other reviews...

Terrible

Worked great for the very 1st time after download (of course, many reboots and network changes to get it to ACTUALLY fire up). Hasnt worked since. Totally crap. Youd have less frustration my throwing that $12 into the bin. At least itd be over quick.

Laggy

Don’t get this app . laggy my Mac Pro 2013 from 280 fps to 10 , impossible to use as 2nd display while gaming.

Doesnt work

Dont waste your money

They just stole my money

Thanks for making a lacklustre app and now making it obsolete. Instead of supporting my 10 dollar purchase you have now decided to try and convince me to upgrade to a new app that is apparently just as buggy. Get duet - and duet, please dont follow the same path as air display.
