Dual Monitors on the road…how great is that? When travelling I use Air Display with my MacBook Air and iPad to get a dual-monitor session into our corporate Windows Server. It works flawlessly with most Hotel/Cafe Wi-Fi hotspots or my iPhone’s personal hotspot. Air Display is terrific piece of software and is well worth the money.
Tips for using Air Display on public Wi-Fi hotspots:
1. Connect both your computer and iPad to the same public Wi-Fi spot.
2. Bring up a web browser on each, complete login/acceptance screen, and verify Internet connectivity by browsing to a web page.
3. Start Air Display on computer and iPad and wait for them to connect.
4. If they don’t connect, try connecting using the IP address of the iPad.
5. If that doesn’t work, then the public Wi-Fi hotspot isn’t compatible with Air Display. Either move to another hotspot or create a personal hotspot on your phone (or Wi-Fi+Cellular iPad).
Tips for using Air Display to get a dual-monitor session to Windows Server:
1. Download & Install MS Remote Desktop on your computer.
2. Set MS Remote Desktop to “Use all monitors” and “Start session in full screen”.
3. Start Air Display on computer and iPad and wait for them to connect.
4. Initiate a Remote Desktop session with the desired Windows Server and voila, instant dual-monitor session.
